We are currently recruiting for the following position:
The school nurse manages the health office to ensure optimum health and safety of students by providing immediate medical care and accurate management of medication and information to maximize health and wellness in the school community. As well as providing preventative care and wellness programs through education sessions and resource development for students, employees and parents.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Medical Aid:
- Provide both emergency and preventative medical care for all persons at the designated HKIS campus, including necessary follow-up arrangements and health screening.
- Maintain first aid equipment to be used in classrooms, sport events and field trips as well as specialty first aid equipment such as epipens.
Medication Administration:
- Design, implement and monitor procedures for the safe storage and administration of medication for those students with chronic physical concerns or conditions as well as formedication for general dispensing in line with health regulations.
Data Maintenance:
- Maintain accurate student health records in a confidential manner in order to provide health reports and statistical analysis to teachers and administrators responsible for monitoring students with health problems or concerns.
Policy and Procedures:
- Develop, implement,review and update school health policies, in order to protect the health and safety of students and staff and to bring into line with Hong Kong laws and government health mandates.
Education:
- Develop, and where appropriate facilitate, a health and wellness program for HKIS students/parents/employees including personal health awareness, and health and safety practices in the classroom
- Take responsibility of the development of health resources for HKIS parents and community.
- Act as a resource for teachers to enrich and reinforce information in health classes.
Emergency Management:
- In cases of an emergencyprovide necessary direction to HKIS administrators to ensure the situation is managed in a manner that will optimize the health, safety and well being of the HKIS community, is in line with Hong Kong government guidelines and minimizes anxiety.
Other:
- Serve as a liaison between the school and the public health department/authority (including mandatory and accurate reporting of health information, communicating accurate information about health directives to the administration)
- Prepare and control an annual budget for the Health Office.
- Work with the HR team to maintain data and organize trainings to ensure all employees within the school divisions are CPR certified.
- Co-ordinate health requirements for school excursions and camps, including sourcing and recruitment of sub/camp nurses, collating student health information and providing required equipment.
- Undertake other duties and functions as required that will impact and strengthen the contributions of the department and overall operations of the school.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Registered/Qualified Nurse
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Certified CPR/First Aid Trainer or willingness to attain certification preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of clinical work experience, preferably in schools or as a paediatric or emergency room nurse
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to students from Kindergarten through Grade 12, staff, faculty and parents
- Solid written and verbal English communication skills with Cantonese language skills desirable
- Demonstrated organisational and emergency management skills, with the ability to multi task and remain calm in high pressure situations
- Solid health assessment skills with the ability to intervene appropriately in emergency circumstances and drive change in health programs to continually meet the needs of students and staff
- Ability to co-ordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agency, and other community resources.
- Understanding of confidentiality and how to maintain this within the health office
- Experience developing and/or facilitating training programs and health and wellness programs is desirable
