We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Communications Manager.
Principal Responsibilities
Role purpose (overall high-level summary of the role)
Reporting to Regional Head of Communications, Global Banking and Markets Asia-Pacific (GBM ASP), the role holder will lead the strategic design and execution of all external communications to position HSBC as a leader in Global Banking and Markets in Asia-Pacific and beyond.
The role holder will also be responsible for developing and delivering purposeful, impactful and creative external communications strategies and activation. The role holder is expected to be a strategic media handler with skills to support executives through a proactive and reactive engagement runway. They need to be able to proactively manage reputational issues and protect the Bank’s reputation. It will therefore require a strong understanding of and aptitude for reputational risk mitigation.
The role holder is expected to have strong, generalist communications skills, with the desire to constantly build new capabilities and enhance their knowledge. They will need the ability to build strong stakeholders relationships quickly and to coach and influence senior leaders and peers. They will be expected to lead planning for creative and compelling content and campaigns in support of Global Banking and Markets. They will work as part of an integrated flexible team that works in an agency model alongside specialists in employee communications and external relations.
The role holder will work in close partnership with the regional and country communications teams to execute global and regional plans in-country.

Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders - Actively drive communications strategy for various markets in Asia-Pacific, across existing and future communication channels including new/emerging platforms and technologies
- Able to translate business strategies, priorities and/or initiatives into high-quality content and activities that are relevant at an enterprise and employee level
- Develop, manage and execute complex communications initiatives with clear deliverables, timelines and budgets
- Develop and execute employee engagement programmes to connect leadership with employees, including developing key messages and communications materials
- Develop and produce relevant content for appropriate communications channels and media
- Provide communications counsel to business leaders, influencing their thinking on strategic communications and coaching them on delivery, messaging and storytelling
- Provide clear and effective communication in response to crisis or emergency situations to reassure and guide colleagues
- Interpret internal communication’s data/metrics and employee feedback to evaluate, inform and improve internal communications and employee engagement
- Able to manage and collaborate cross-culturally across diverse markets, teams, and/or matrix structure – including the Global Communications, Global Banking and Markets network and Internal Communications teams – to ensure seamless delivery of priority programmes and foster strong connectivity with our network
Leadership & Teamwork - Ensure a collaborative, outcomes-focused approach to delivering global projects and campaigns
- Be a leader in the team – indirectly mentor and coach future talent and think about how to best create a supportive environment for peers and junior colleagues
- Ensure execution to world-class standards and share knowledge and best practice across the Communications network
- Keep up to date with latest external communications research, techniques and approaches, and network externally with peers

Requirements
Functional Knowledge - Able to work within a complex/ambiguous environment, prioritise and reconcile competing demands and resolve complex issues
- Proven track record of developing, managing, and implementing communications plans and/or people engagement programmes that align to business strategies with a track record of delivering solid and measurable results
- Outstanding writer with the ability to create compelling messages/content that provides all levels of employees with a clear line of sight to business strategies
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including the ability to work confidently and effectively with senior executives
- Ability to understand business issues and devise communication solutions that deliver results, constructing fresh approaches where appropriate and making connects to other issues
- Superior collaboration and interpersonal skills; strong ability to interface and influence at all levels of management
- Team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment; excellent interpersonal, strategic planning and project management skills
- Good knowledge/experience in wholesale banking or financial services is a plus
- Keeps up to date on latest communication trends, insights, approaches/ best practices and use of different tools and platforms for internal communications
- Ability to work quickly, managing time and multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to navigate a matrixed organisation and adapt to market/country nuances
