DEPARTMENT OF FOOD SCIENCE AND NUTRITION

The Department of Food Science and Nutrition is a multi-disciplinary department established from 1 January 2023 under the Faculty of Science. With the unique standing in Hong Kong and the commitment to quality teaching, research excellence and knowledge transfer, the Department is envisioned to develop all-rounded graduates with professional qualifications, and promote interdisciplinary research with positive societal impacts. The Department’s key research pillars are Food Safety, Food Technology, Human Nutrition and Chinese Medicine. Currently, there are about 18 academic and teaching staff and 14 Research Assistant Professors in the Department. Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a) provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including research, teaching and service in the Department;

(b) provide leadership in promoting research collaboration, securing external research grants, improving research quality and publication outputs;

(c) facilitate the Department to gain and increase visibility and international/industrial connections;

(d) teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;

(e) engage in the supervision of research students of the Department, such as MPhil and PhD students;

(f) carry out academic and administrative duties as required; and

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a) have a doctoral degree in Food, Nutrition and Human Health or a related discipline;

(b) have substantial years of relevant experience in research and university teaching in the discipline of Food, Nutrition and Human Health;

(c) have proven track records in teaching and research;

(d) have demonstrated excellence in establishing significant externally funded research programmes;

(e) have considerable experience in academic programme planning, management and curriculum development;

(f) be able to demonstrate academic management and leadership capabilities; and

(g) be open to the use of e-learning and blended learning strategies in teaching and scholarship.

Applicants for appointment at Professor or Associate Professor level should have substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience and an excellent record of relevant academic and/or research achievement. Applicants with less experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant Professor.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor and Professor levels.
