Role Introduction

Reports to: Head of Procurement Operations and Development

Department: Procurement & Aircraft Trading (APD)

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the key contact for the procurement team to assess technical and commercial viability of SAF projects, their technical pathways and feedstock.
• Take responsibility for assurance of supply by assessing and monitoring SAF assets and their operational and commercial risks in purchasing decisions. This includes detailed analysis of project plans, scopes, timelines, cost estimates, and resource plans.
• Coordinate with various internal teams (e.g. Sustainable Development, Finance, Flight Operations, Engineering, Legal) and external stakeholders (e.g. contractors, partners) to complete due diligence.
• Follow up on the operational readiness of contracted projects, from inception to completion, including performance against key milestones and budget.
• Prepare and present project status reports to senior management.
• Anticipate potential issues, and devises contingency plans when necessary. Conduct project post-mortems to develop lessons learned and improvements.
• Develop a robust governance structure and criteria for SAF asset readiness assessments, as well as for operational follow-ups and controls.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field
• A minimum of 10 years of technical/operational experience in oil & gas / (petro)chemical industries
• Experience in SAF or Renewable Fuel technologies (HEFA, ATJ, MTJ, FT, etc.), Biomass Conversion technologies (fermentation, gasification, pyrolysis, etc.), and/or relevant Refining technologies (hydroprocessing, oligomerization, etc.)
• Understanding of operating assets and aptitude for learning new technologies
• Proven experience in developing capital projects, preferably including both execution and commercial aspects
• A proven track record in greenfield projects being a plus
• Strong knowledge of project management principles and practices
• Entrepreneurial mindset, strong commercial acumen and problem-solving skills with a ‘hands-on’ mentality
• Excellent people skills; ability to inspire, build trust and influence internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to build a strong network and secure Cathay’s position in the SAF supply market
• Demonstrated ability to define and implement strategies
• Comprehensive knowledge of the aviation industry and its evolving landscape
• Analytical and presentation skills
• Approachable and decisive
• Fluent in English (must) and fluent in Mandarin (preferred)
