Sports Tournaments & Sporting Events

Whether you want to participate or spectate, there are lots of ways to get involved in Hong Kong’s sporting community.

Arguably the most renowned sporting event in the city is the Hong Kong Sevens, which sees the world’s best rugby sevens sides battle it out for the title in late March/early April. Held at the Hong Kong Stadium in Wan Chai, people travel from all corners of the globe to attend and there’s a great sense of occasion, with many spectators in the South Stand attending in fancy dress to watch their teams.

Held in January, the Hong Kong Open is another big sporting event for the territory, and some of the world’s best golfers tee off at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Sheung Shui for a chance to win a prize of US$1 million.

Attracting around 70,000 runners annually, the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, half marathon, and 10k events kick off early in the morning on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. Keen runners will also love the Hong Kong 100 Ultra Trial Race, which takes in ancient forests and unspoilt beaches on its 103km course, while the Oxfam Trailwalker sees teams of four walk, hike, jog or run along a 100km course to raise money for charity.
