We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the Library:

Assistant Librarian I / II (Research and Learning Support) (LIB) (Ref: 25002PU)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Overseeing operations, supervising staff, and training for the library’s research and learning support activities;
  • Participating in planning, organizing, and implementing research and learning support services;
  • Providing classroom instruction, workshops, and tours on research tools, library resources, and services;
  • Driving the promotion and adoption of artificial intelligence and digital tools to enhance research, learning, and user experience in library services;
  • Designing and managing user education materials, including online guides, interactive content, instructional videos, and innovative e-learning services;
  • Offering in-depth instructional and consultation services to researchers and students on effective information retrieval, access, and management;
  • Providing and managing reference and enquiry services, including the Library’s Chatbot Libi, to deliver prompt, accurate, and latest information on library resources and services;
  • Supporting the Library’s research projects;
  • Serving on Library Subject Teams to support academic liaison and collection development;
  • Participating in committees and task forces as required; and
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or his/her nominee(s).

Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • A recognized university degree and a professional library qualification (e.g. AALIA, ALA, MCLIP, MLIS or equivalent);
  • At least 6 years’ relevant post-qualification experience, preferably in an academic library;
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in providing research and learning support services, and handling reference and user enquiries;
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable to rapidly changing needs;
  • Strong planning, problem-solving and organizational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Chinese, preferably including Putonghua;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; and
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Applicants with less relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Librarian II.

Candidates may be invited to attend a written test.

An attractive remuneration package, including basic salary, an end-of-contract gratuity, and a discretionary incentive payment, where applicable, will be offered to the right candidates.
