Description of Tasks

Optometrists examine the eyes and other parts of the visual system. They also diagnose and treat visual problems or impairments. They prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses as needed.

Professional knowledge and skills in Optometry

Optometrists must be able to apply professional knowledge and skills in optometry to diagnose and treat patients for proper treatment.

Minimum Requirements

Normally have a bachelor's degree of science in Optometry Programme
Must be a registered optometrist under the Optometrists Board of the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance
Must hold a valid practicing certificate issued by the Optometrists Board under the Supplementary Medical Professions Council of Hong Kong; holding membership of the Hong Kong Society of Professional Optometrists is preferable.
