About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and junior legal professional to join the Law Department as a Legal Counsel.
The successful candidate will support the senior members of the legal team to serve as a trusted legal advisor and subject matter expert supporting various business units by adopting a customer-centric approach, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidelines and company policies.
The candidate will ideally have legal experience spanning multiple practice areas such as corporate, commercial, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), insurance products, litigation, employment, information technology (IT), artificial intelligence (AI), regulatory advisory and reporting, data privacy and protection. Prior in-house experience, particularly with exposure to the insurance-related matters and/or regulatory communications, is preferred.
This role offers the opportunity to gain diverse and hands-on experience on multiple legal practice areas in a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative environment, as well as to contribute to driving meaningful change, shaping strategies and supporting key business initiatives across the organization.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory and Support - Conduct groundwork support and research and provide customer-centric and commercially sound legal advice on various business areas, including product development and actuarial treaties, operations, marketing, distribution, litigation and complaints, employment, data privacy and protection, IT and AI and outsourcing.
Support strategic projects and initiatives (including participation in relevant committees/taskforces/working groups) to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, mitigate risks, and enhance operational efficiency.
Regulatory - Provide legal support in communications and engagement with regulators including the Insurance Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, and the Monetary Authority of Macao.
Provide guidance to internal teams on legal and regulatory risks and requirements, ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulations, codes of conduct, guidelines and internal policies.
Contentious - Provide support in managing disputes and litigations, including working with external legal counsel where necessary.
Assist internal teams in handling policyholder claims, coverage disputes, and customer complaints to mitigate associated legal and regulatory risks.
Others - Perform such other duties and tasks as may be assigned the Manager or other senior members of the team.
Minimum Job Requirements: - A solicitor or barrister qualified to practice in Hong Kong with a minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience.
Fluent in written and spoken English and Chinese.
Others: - The candidate is required to obtain relevant license(s) if the job involves regulated activities.
