A Korean Pharmacist Dad’s Journey of Love and Belonging in Hong Kong

Mr Heungsoo Lee, a South Korean father of three sons, taught himself Cantonese to better understand the culture of his Hong Kong spouse and facilitate the family's settlement in the city. In addition, he dedicated three years to passing the pharmacist registration examinations, becoming the first South Korean pharmacist to practise in Hong Kong through the registration pathway for non-local applicants.

Now, after 10 years in the city, he has truly made Hong Kong his home.

From mixing up "do1 ze6” (多謝) and "m4 goi1” (唔該), to becoming the "Oppa" at pharmacy — Korean for “older brother” — he has proven with his own journey that as long as you are willing to embrace Hong Kong, you can put down roots and thrive.

Looking ahead to the next decade, he hopes to open a pharmacy infused with Korean characteristics, offering customers more choices.

This Father’s Day, Heung-soo will celebrate not only as a proud dad, but also as a “son-in-law”, sharing the occasion with his Hong Kong father-in-law over a big family meal.

To him, Hong Kong has offered not only a fulfilling career, but also a loving home.
